2014年12月MTV台整季预订了该剧，这是MTV进入有剧本节目领域以来最具雄心的一个新项目，故事根据Terry Brooks撰写的系列奇幻小说《沙娜拉之剑》改编。《超人前传》（Smallville）的创作人Al Gough和Miles Millar将撰写该剧的剧本，电影《忍者神龟》（Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles）的导演Jonathan Liebesman担任前两集的导演，他们三人还将兼任执行制片人。Terry Brooks本人亦担任执行制片人。Jon Favreau原本应该导演首集，但因为档期冲突而未能如愿，他将保留执行制片人的身份。 在奇幻文学的历史上，从1977年开始出版的《沙娜拉之剑》是与《魔戒》、《地海传说》、《黑暗塔》、《龙枪》、《真理之剑》等巨著齐名的经典作品，前前后后一共有25本书。故事发生在人类文明毁灭数...。A group of aliens has come to Earth to learn about its population, customs, etc. To avoid detection, they have taken on human form which gives them human emotions, physical needs etc. WITHOUT the understanding of what they mean or the inhibitions normally present in humans.
